However, many who experience chest dysphoria are faced with a difficult situation - which binder is suitable for swimming? The fabric of the regular Binder is not designed to withstand pool or sea water. A tight binder is also not recommended for use during physically demanding activities such as swimming.
At Sateenkaarikaupa, we grabbed everything and decided to try how swimming binders work. Below is Noa's experience with Danaë's Swimtop Binder.
Hi, my name is Nooa and I got Danaë's swimming binder to try out from Sateenkaarikupa.
My chest has never felt right to me. I bought my first Binder used in 2017 and it completely changed my life. Previously, I had only used sports bras with which I did not get as good a result. Leaving the house is much easier with a binder on. With the help of binders, I've gotten my chest dysphoria under control quite well, except for individual bad days. I have noticed that I am more confident when my chest is flat.
Really, my only problem with binding has been sports. In general, sports are not recommended while wearing a binder, so I have used sports bras, which causes chest dysphoria. Luckily, I got to test this swimming binder!
I put Binder on as soon as it arrived in the mail. I noticed that the Binder could be pulled on just as easily as a normal binder, and it did not restrict movement at all. It feels great and good to wear. The armholes are a bit tight, which causes chafing, but thanks to that, the breasts don't flash from the sides. The neckline is round, suitably high. Binder corresponded well to the clothing size I usually wear, and was comfortable to wear thanks to the stretchy fabric. You can't see through the fabric, even the nipples stayed well hidden. The flattening effect is good, although due to the flexible fabric maybe not quite as good as in regular binders, but it was to be expected, because you have to be able to swim with this on - that is, exercise safely.
I hadn't swum in years because even the thought of swimming in a bathing suit is too stressful. Memories of swimming pools didn't encourage me to try either. I even asked my good friend to help me swim.
At the swimming pool, I put the Binder on before I got wet so I could put it on safely and easily. I don't know how difficult it is to pull on a wet Binder, I've never tried it and it's not even generally recommended. When I was in the shower, however, I noticed that the fabric gives way more when it gets wet, so tight armholes were no longer a problem and the fabric didn't chafe the skin.
When swimming, I tried several swimming techniques and each of them was just as successful as with a normal swimsuit, meaning that the movement of the hands was not restricted at any point. The breasts stayed well in place, and did not flash anywhere in between. During the swimming vacation, the hem had to be pulled down sometimes as it started to slowly rise. At no point did Binder cause symptoms such as dizziness, breathing difficulties, feeling unwell or pain. Deep breathing was done without any problems.
The binder was easy to take off even when wet, maybe easier to take off than to put on. There weren't really any dents and chafing after two hours of swimming, which was surprising.
I am very satisfied with this Danaë swimming binder, and thanks to it, I can go swimming without worries in the future. The price seems a little high at first, but I think it's worth the scale relief of a good swimming binder, and the binder is definitely durable, especially if you keep it well and follow the washing instructions.
